Following
an accident some 50 years or so ago, the East Pond became polluted. During
subsequent years it was used as a rubbish dump and eventually became derelict.
By the 1990's it had been filled with all kinds of rubbish and was a total
eyesore. In 1995, thanks to support from the National Lottery Fund, work
was started to drain the pond and clear out the rubbish.
The
photographs above, taken before and after the restoration work, show how
dramatic this transformation has been.
