It has come to the attention of the Friends and Trustees of Sugar Mill Ponds that there has been an occurrence of abusive and offensive behaviour on the site, experienced by a responsible dog walker and Friend of the group.
Following the reporting of such an incident, the Friends and Trustees would like to remind everyone that there are very specific aims set in the constitution of the group, one such aim being to …
- ‘Promote, protect and develop a balance between the recreational interests and ecological values of the site while promoting the use of the site by the wider community, schools and other local groups.’
Therefore, it is essential for all users of the site to be respectful of both each other and the site itself, to ensure everyone feels able to access and use the site without fear of abuse or any other kind of anti-social behaviour, and the groups’ aims continue to be met for the benefit of
ALL users.
It should be noted that The Friends of Sugar Mill Ponds will not tolerate any kind of anti-social behaviour, and should it come to our attention again, then we will consider imposing additional restrictions, such as dogs being kept on leads at all times. While we recognise that most people and dog walkers use the site appropriately and responsibly keeping their dogs under close control, we cannot and will not tolerate any type of unacceptable behaviour and will not allow the minority to spoil it for the majority of responsible users of the site, therefore restrictions will be imposed if similar incidents continue to occur.
This is also a timely reminder that spring is the breeding season for our wildlife and dog walkers are asked to keep their dogs
under close control for the benefit of the wildlife, particularly at this important time of year.
